During my relaxing time spent with relatives in Virginia over the holidays, we took a lot of long walks down country roads, listened to music, dreamed beside fireplaces, and yes, caught up on a lot of movies. I hadn’t realized how many of 2011′s hit films I’d missed until we broke out their DVD library and began to catch me up on some cinematic experiences that got by me due to work and other obligations. I couldn’t, however, leave work completely behind. As a writer, and one who really loves writing about technology, I found myself noticing all the gadgets and laptops and PCs in the movies more than the stars themselves, and in some cases, even the story line. What really jumped out at me was the frequency of Apple products appearing in movies. Since I’m a Mac junkie, it secretly thrilled me to see so many appearances of Macs, and hardly any noticable appearances of other, more generic computers.
I soon noticed that other people like me have spotted Macs in movies, going back a very long way in many instances. Macs have always had a sort of “elite” connotation. Having them featured in films and used by “the good guys” sends a subliminal message that is loud and clear to those of us already in the Apple camp. Here is a great infographic I found today while researching this phenomenon. It points out several Mac sightings from famous movies, even as far back as the 80s!
